The Comeback of Statement Earrings

Ana- Viejas, the other day, Corina and I were talking about things that had made a come back we won’t wear again. Today’s earrings are reminiscent of the ones we wore in the 80s, and 90s; when our ear lobes could still carry the weight or bounce back from a yank.
I wore hoops, metal dangling, colorful plastic, chandeliers, and even a pair Corina still calls the UFOs. Now I wear metal studs for every day. The ones that come in a pack of 20 for $50. As my facial features get bigger my earrings have gotten smaller.
I use my mother’s and grandmother’s earrings for special occasions.
All my earrings now are minimalist and weightless. Sometimes cute, sometimes edgy.
Vieja and Viejo (yes, you know who you are...), I dare you; go find a picture of yourself with (a) statement earring(s)!

Corina- earrings are unique, personal and can be either the smallest piece of your outfit or the largest depending on the occasion and current trends. 2023 brings back many of the fashion trends of the 80s and 90s, being one of them the big, colorful statement earrings. Viejas, as you can guess back then my earrings were often large, and in colors that matched my outfit. Although I still love big statement earrings, I do not wear them any longer. Now, I wear small classic studs daily and a pair of threader earrings, hoops or a “mismatched” pair when I want to switch it a little. In addition, all my earrings are hypoallergenic, and light weight. I add a big flat back for comfort and to keep them in place.
